Dal 16 dicembre è disponibile anche in Italia Amazon Prime Video (già disponibile in 200 Paesi), il servizio di streaming di Amazon che offre film e serie tv doppiati in italiano (qualcuno con soli sottotitoli). Il servizio è gratuito per coloro che sono o si abbonano a Prime (19,9 euro all’anno), in pratica Amazon sceglie questa strategia per aumentare i propri clienti ma anche per limitarne l’utilizzo ai soli abbonati (quanti si fiderebbero a dare ad amici la propria password di accesso, con la quale si possono fare gli acquisti?). Come la concorrente Netflix, anche Amazon offre 30 giorni di fruizione gratuita.
Il limite, per ora, di Amazon Video è quello di offrire una catalogo molto ristretto, solo 290 film (100 dei quali sono di marca Universal disponibili su quasi tutte le piattaforme di streaming), la maggioranza dei quali doppiati in italiano e tutti con possibilità di scegliere sottotitoli in diverse lingue. Tutti i titoli sono fruibili sia in streaming che in download per una visione successiva senza internet. Il sito www.primevideo.com funziona con tutti i browser che supportano HTML5 (ma anche Microsoft Silverlight) e sono disponibili app sia per Android che IOS, e naturalmente col tablet Amazon Fire dove si trova già caricato. Le tv Samsung, Sony e LG di ultime generazioni hanno l’applicazione inserita. E’ possibile scegliere tra tre diverse impostazioni di qualità (Good, Better, Best). Tra i titoli offerti troviamo la superpremiata serie “Transparent” (forse la serie più LGBT di tutti i tempi) e “Mozart in the Jungle” (che nella nuova stagione è ancora più gaya). Tra i film alcuni titoli non recentissimi, come Beginners, Il dubbio, Mean Girls, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Hours, Young Adult, veramente poco, ma siamo solo alla partenza, e Amazon è sicuramente tra le distribuzioni e produzioni più gayfriendly.
Tra i titoli in divenire sono annunciati Crisis in Six Scenes, la serie tv di Woody Allen, Goliath di David E. Kelley con Billy Bob Thornton, la docuserie American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story, Sneaky Pete, prodotta da Bryan Cranston, e Graham Yost, Z: The Beginning of Everything, con Christina Ricci.
