Il quotidiano britannico The Indipendent pubblica anche quest’anno la lista dei 101 personaggi LGBT più influenti e famosi del Regno Unito. Pochi anni fa questa lista era composta da soli 20 nominativi (alcuni dei quali furono convinti ad apparire con non poche difficoltà), mentre oggi hanno dovuto fare diverse scelte di limitazioni, come ad esempio quella di inserire solo personaggi di primo piano nel proprio settore. Nella lista abbiamo 28 new entries, e al primo posto, scalzando l’attore Sir Ian Mckellen, abbiamo lo sceneggiatore Russell T Davies, produttore e sceneggiatore di diversi episodi di “Queer as Folk” e di “Doctor Who” e nominato quest’anno Industry Player dell’annuale Edinburgh International Television Festival. Al secondo posto l’attore Stephen Fry, che nel 2006 è risultato, in un sondaggio del pubblico, la nona più grande star e la sesta icona vivente della BBC (dove il suo quiz show “QI” potrebbe essere definito un cult se non avesse un’udienza così ampia). Secondo i lettori di Radio Times è la persona più intelligente del mondo.
